How do you feel about Anzac Day?

April 24th 2008 02:04
Anzac Day feelings

My great grandfather was an Anzac on Gallipoli and my parents used to tell me about it as a child.

I remember going to a relative's place, I don't remember now just who it was, and being shown my grandfather's medals and liking the bright little ribbons which were attached and the picture to-day reminds me of those medals and how brave the soldiers were then. They did not have the protective resources soldiers now have available to them, and still soldiers get killed, it's all very sad really, so many brave men and now women as well who fight to protect our freedom, which I don't think too many of us appreciate, at least not those in my generation and below me.

That, too, is rather sad, don't you think?

With so many now all too ready to pull down any mementos commemorating the brave and fallen and not being sufficiently appreciative I'm wondering what my readers think.

Anzac day is a holiday but it is a holiday with meaning and purpose not just for playing sport and I think we have sacrificed too many idealls in the name of sport, or dare I say it, money.

Nevertheless I have plans afoot for enjoying the weekend, but I shall watch the March to-morrow morning on the TV, it never fails to move me, and the men and women who march are so proud and deserve more than the amount of respect with which we credit them.

But after the March Andrew and I are going off to his farm, heavens knows why, I like it but really I could take it or leave it, but he loves it.

I guess that's fine if one always has someone else to do the work for you.

We'll get home late but with the rest of the weekend to go there is no reason why I should not sleep in on Saturday, I in my bed, and Andrew back at his place, in his bed. Then there'll be the usual chores to attend to before our big Saturday night out and Andrew has something special planned and Sunday we'll all be having a barbecue at my mum and dad's place with many family members calling in bringing their children with them.

Soon, I hope it will be me bringing my children too. That's an exciting thought but something of a frightening one as well, I have never been too good at the domestics.

Fortunately I have money and resources to compensate.

No doubt all of you have various plans and various feelings about this holiday celebration.

So, how do you feel about Anzac Day?

feeling tense

Sometimes it's hard to think what a new post should be all about. But I've been feeling a bit tense lately and I really do not know what is causing it.

Everything seems to be going well and yet there's this nagging feeling at the back of my mind.

I've been dreaming quite a lot as well and sometimes wake up thinking, oh, it was only a dream, thank heavens for that.

I'm feeling rather new to all of this feelings stuff and some people seem to depend far more on their feelings than others. Have you notice this too or is it just me.

I read recently that
sometimes you just need to stare at something different to clean your mind and bring yourself back into focus.

I've never heard of that, perhaps I should try it. Have you ever had experiences like this?

Apparently rational thinking does not really solve the problem although I would have thought it did, but I do not know that I have seen any lifting of my tension no matter how rationally I try to work it out.

I'm only just starting to use and tune into my feelings and I guess that is why I write this blog.

Mind you I am not asking you for the reasons for MY tension, I'm just asking do you ever feel this way and perhaps some of you know more about these things than I do.

I've tried the getting back to nature bit and playing with the cat, visiting the parents, and as always Andrew and I enjoy each other's company but still there is this lurking tension.

I guess most people think I'm lucky but we are all human and all have problems whether lucky or not so although I would like to apologise to those less well off than myself it still does not throw any light on my own particular feelings.

Do these things get worse or better as one ages. I would have thought the older you get the easier life becomes and I'm sure that in some ways this is true.

I'd love to know your thoughts on tension and what causes unidentifiable tension and what relieves it, or does it just suddenly go away?

sex obsessions

People's obsession with stories about sexual scandal is an obsession which apparently comes from people's fear and hatred of sex.

I read this on the internet recently and it made me wonder.

Humans naturally find sex pleasurable. Sex is fun, pleasurable, and stress-relieving.

So why should these negative feelings come to the surface?

“We fear violence less than our own feelings. Personal, private, solitary pain is more terrifying than what anyone else can inflict.” This is one quote I found and another says

"Fear of addiction may help explain why people still fear sexuality. This fear perhaps makes the most sense. People can become addicted by indulging too much in any pleasurable activity, especially intense activities conducive to overindulgence such as sex, gambling, unhealthy eating, playing video games and so on and so forth"

I was really quite shocked to read this, I am not going to have sex until I am married but that is a moral and personal preference, I love the idea of having sex and I can tell that
Andrew feels the same way. Just because we restrict our sexual activity does not mean we don't have any.

So having read these very negative comments which quite shocked me I was left wondering what you think about these things. I could perhaps accept that a very few would have problems nowadays but with so much open discussion I would have thought that most people would accept sex quite openly and happily although I have always wondered about sex in the movies and in celebrity behaviours and people do seem to be overly obsessed with that.

We don't like our politicians to be perverts in any way and soon get rid of them if we think they are and often they make public admissions which I find a bit odd.

We all know that sex sells but these negative connotations leave me wondering.

What do you think?
