Crystal gets a haircut, shops and makes big plans

Cats and kittens
My neighbours' cats

So early with my post yesterday and so late today, sorry everyone. But let me fill you in on my day.

It was uneventful to begin with and I made a couple of personal phone calls. One was about getting a cat from the local cat protection society. I had closed my door and I was on the phone longer than I expected.

I'd read about this in the paper so I filled them in on my circumstances. They said they had a little cat that was just right for me. She'd been found wandering in a local park very thin but really quite healthy and under the circumstances she was fearful and rather timid. She had no identification and they could only conclude she'd been abandoned.

They had built her up and desexed her and she was now about six months old, had been vet checked and needed a home. She was toilet trained and a very clean little kitty. They hadn't given her a name, leaving that to the anticipated new owner and they'd like to see me and give me a chance to meet with and play with the cat.

I felt just so excited and was just finishing my phone call when "face ache", the boss, came marching in not even bothering to knock and started off without bothering to check whether I'd finished my call. Well, did I give him the heave ho.

Excuse me, I'm on the phone, please close the door as you leave and I started to apologise into the phone not giving him any chance to do anything else. The door banged loudly as he left.

I smiled secretly to myself and thought how much I was enjoying myself. I opened the door and returned to my desk.

Just prior to 11, after my morning tea, I picked up my handbag and was just leaving when he came back again.

He looked at me as I went past. If I'd been going to the toilet I would not have informed him of such so I just passed by leaving him speechless. I arrived promptly at the hairdressers, simply wanting a few centimeters clipped from my rather long hair. Of course they wanted to give me the "works" but that simply was not on, perhaps another time, I suggested, wishing to get the job done with a minimum of fuss unaccompanied by annoyance. I only want what I want and do not need to be convinced otherwise.

When I returned to work my hair was back in its usual chignon.

Where have you been thundered face ache. I felt sorely tempted to say 'I've been up to London to visit the Queen" but thought better of it.

I've had my haircut I said. What in business hours? he replied. Yes, I said, the men do it all the time. He started to bluster but thought better of it and one could have accused me of smirking as I turned away.

Off I went to lunch as usual and I didn't see him again until I was leaving at 5.

Can I have a word, he said, a little more politely. No, I said, I have to dash, I have an appointment, forgetting, deliberately of course, that it was only to go shopping.

Oh, I'll see you in the morning, he said flatly and rather unusually meekly. Well, it does pay to assert oneself I was finding out.

It was funny but Steve had come by a litle earlier and asked if I were going to drinks again to-morrow night. I replied that I was and he said he'd take me round again if I liked. He'd not monopolised me the previous week and seemed to leave early so I agreed.

Life was looking up and I am now the proud owner of three new very feminine, but not so stylish as the one I wore last week, dresses and some casual clothes for the weekend.

Chocolate to drink and to eat
A break from shopping - iced chocolate

Chocolate and cake for a break
Naughty Chocolate cake

It was quite a shop I can tell you.

So, it's been an eventful day and that is why I am so late with this post. But at this point, I couldn't be happier.

Really well done Crystal, you've shown us all the way. Assertion is the way to go ( if you can get away with it, and on your salary I suppose you can.)

Sounds exciting about the cat.

Good on ya Krystal - a lot more assertive than I have ever been! Your job in a male dominated society sounds exciting - what do you do if you don`t mind me asking? People intrigue me.

btw is it Crystal or Krystal? Sorry I`m a little confused!
