Crystal's feeling tired after work and an exciting week

Crystal's feelings - kitchen
Kitchen

Well all good things come to an end and it was back to work as usual.

Mid morning, 'face ache' came by and asked me how I was feeling, barely waiting for my reply, before he launched out with.

"I've got a nice little project for you"

"Oh, yes, what's that?"

"The Christmas party."

"No thanks."

"No?"

"Yes, that's right, no."

"But I thought you were getting on so well with the staff and since you've been out drinking with them I thought you'd be ideal."

"Well, I'm not, no thank you, not me. And I did not go out drinking with them I just called in for a drink Friday after work which is the usual practice and the company sponsors it."

"Why don't you ask them to do it. They'd be delighted."

"But it needs supervision."

"Good, ask one of the young men to do it. Now if you'll excuse me I have a lot of catching up to do and picked up a memo on my desk and began reading it, thereby dismissing him but not before I saw his mouth hanging open at my response."

He took himself off mumbling under his breath , let him mumble.

No sooner had he gone than Steve appeared at the door.

"How are you Crystal?"

"I'm fine thanks" and turned away knowing his next question would be what was the matter. Men can be so crass at times.

"I wondered if you were going around for drinks on Friday?"

"No", I replied "not this week"

"Would you like to go somewhere and have a drink with me?"

"I have a prior commitment", I replied ,without indicating what it was.

"I was thinking of going up the coast for a drive on Sunday, would you like to come?"

I thought that would be nice and agreed quite happily. He arranged to collect me at 8 a.m.so we'd have an early start, and then departed.

So now I was frree to get on with my work.

I arrived home in anticipation of seeing the cat. She was outside. I'd left food and water so there was no need for her to come in.

She came gambolling up when I went outside and I said round there, pointing up the side and shooing her away.

I went back in and sat in the sunroom near her cat door. No cat.

Well, I couldn't keep this up all night and I went out into the kichen to prepare my evening meal making a lot of noise and letting her saucer clink as I put it on the floor and pourred out her daily ration of millk. I know it's gone out of fashion but I've yet to meet a cat her who did not like milk.

Still no cat, I got down on my hands and knees for the second time and called through the door. Her little face appeared and she just sat and looked at me. No amount of coaxing would bring her inside. I called some more and as she came closer I put my hand thru the door grabbed her by the scruff of the nceck and pulled her inside and she miaowed loudly by way of protest at her rough treatment.

I took her into the kitchen stroking her coat gently to calm her down. She lapped greedily at the milk spilling it on the floor as cats do and then I gave her some fresh fish which she loves.

I went in to watch TV and she followed me happily. She jumped up on the lounge beside me and then crawled on to my lap and when I started to stroke her she purred contentedly and there I sat for the rest of the evening.

But I was tired tonight as I had worked hard and decided to go to bed. I turned out the lights and as there was fresh kiity litter there the cat could please herself what she did and I crawled into bed

I was finding cathood quite tiring and wondered what parenthood was like. How on earth did two working parents cope whren they had full time jobs and then needed to come home to the children.

I was feeling quite overwhelmed at the thought.

How do you feel about such things?

The evening had left me feeling tired and somewhat daunted by the whole process.

I can't say I hated it, but I certainly didn't like feeling like that.

Well Krystal,
basically I am with you!

I am single, due to a particular prediliction towards the same sex, however, I have my mother with me, she is very agile, 85, quietly demanding, very creative, completely at ease with me doing all the housework, eats dropping crumbs and leaves greasy buttered finger smears on the fridge door!

However, she makes her own bed, and usually does one other important job, loads the washing machine and dryer, which allows her to feel some usefulness and gives some exercise, while she shrinks all my new shirts, and mixes colours with whites, I mean pale pinks and greens...now...

However, I have company, and do what a dutiful son should do, when others stand back...

I have no private life, but, that would be so anyway, as I have a hideously big tummy.

We share a pug dog.

I am her dog's large bald (that is no body fur, not head bald!) puppy, so I usually do as I am told, by her, and go to bed when ordered, done so by barking continually until I give up and turn the computer off.

Whatever your life exists of, just think, it is not always greener on the other side of the fence, as you already suspect, yet, having a kid, if brought up to be mindful of others and dutiful, may be in your favour one day, when they look after you...or not...remembering Whatever Happened to Baby Jane...sisters, but, you get the point!

cheers

fog

P.S. As for my dotage, I'm hoping for a quick and mercifully early death!

I am sure you will adjust......mind you i have two dogs and a cat, the cat hates the dog's so there is a constant battle in my house...

One of the dogs is a puupy that won't wee in our yard in the rain, so i have to take them for a walk rain hail or shine...this morning i took too long to get into my sweats and he peed all over my partners favourite rug....i really don' think ill ever get used to that side of being a good parent !!!!!!!! he was lucky he didnt get turned into dog meat....I still have a sore throat from reprimanding him using the noise the dog trainer taught me....

happy friday, enjoy your drive sunday.

Fog, when you're not on a rant you really are quite delightful and have a great sense of humour, love mum and the pug, methinks Fog is a little fuss pot, somehow, that was a lovely newsy comment. Live as long as you CAN but stay HEALTHY, that's the way to go.

I wanna live forever, I want to learn how to fly......when you give up your dream you die.

You've got a lot of livin' to do, meanwhile I just want to go on with the show and get into production.

Thanks for your short story, it was lovely.

Techno and Michaelie, it's great to see you here. Michaelie, a little double entendre intended there?

Louie, how delightful but oh, how awful, sack the dog trainer, take little one out in the yard each morning whether he likes it or not. The thought of dog mince, oh no.

The carpet, oh, dear, the partner, oh, dread, go daddy go.

You're letting that little one control you.

What you need for the carpet is a good cleaner, a little in house joke, chuckle, your family sound just so drole.

Boys and girls come OUT to play.

Oh what a start to the day. Loved your news column.

Michaelie, I understand about those fish, good for breakfast on wholemeal toast with a sprinkle of vinegar, katyzzz tells me fish is good for the brain.

Sorry about the pond, I actually thought mine looked a little sick.

Crystal, K or C, I answer to both.

Anon, I pinched it from the web, but try kitchens or LouieLighting.

I guess in your case you'd be obliged to pay for it?
