Scones
Scones from the cooking class

The cooking class was so much fun. I was the worst there, that's a nice change, I usually like being the best.

We did scones and I was just covered in flour, I didn't know what to do with my hands and one of the boys helped me out. I forgot that more men were into cooking nowadays, I don't wonder, it's that, eat out, or never get fed and the third isn't much of an option or even a future really {pun very much intended, oh I do enjoy my own little jokes, I LOVE them}

Well they started off showing us the stove and the microwave, and the differences between gas and electricity. It seems I did know something after all. But I don't like microwaves but it seems some people never use anything else.

Because our scones had to cook in the time available we did those first. I'm so glad they handed out sheets as we left giving the recipes.

So after I had divested myself of most of the flour and while our scones were cooking, we made a simple salad. I was pretty good at that but there was an older man there who declared this was all his wife's idea not his and he couldn't care less if he never cooked anything in his lifetime but did confess he was pretty good with meat on the barbie but his wife did all the other things and the cleaning up afterwards.

He was so clumsy, that poor little lettuce, well I tore mine up with my delicate fingers, never a knife to be seen but we resorted to knives to cut the other vegetables but they did not need cooking and we made our own salad dressing, it was easy once you had the right ingredients. I received a nice smile from the teacher by way of reward, after my effort with the scones she seemed surprised that I could do anything. And I got myself a secret admirer, that young man invited me for a coffee, it seems some men do have errr well oh, yes, testosterone, that's the more correct term.

I said I was in a rush, and he said, perhaps next time. it was all a bit of a hoot really.

My scones did not look too good and we were subjected to the indignity of eating them there. Well really, if I'd been home mine would have ended up in the bin.

The best thing about the class was that is was quite short and next time we were informed we'd be expected to clean up as we went, but for this first class they had some people there to clean up after us.

I did the weekly shopping afterwards and was home by about 1.00. Not to be deterred by my previous poor efforts I decided I'd do another batch of scones and these worked out quite reasonably.

I caught my neighbour's eye over the fence and asked her if she'd like to come in for afternoon tea. I must say she looked taken aback as we'd really barely even spoken.

Oh, not now dear, I'm doing the garden but why don't you bring them in to my place and we'll eat outside, I can knock off for about 10 minutes.

Feeling inspired by my social success at the cooking class I launched straight in. I told her I was socially inept but thought it was time I thought about getting married, but I'd never had a boyfriend but I had had a couple of dates (well sort of dates) recently.

She said, you're doing well. I asked her where she'd met her husband, he was a lot older than she. She looked a bit taken aback but said she used to work for him and he'd gone through quite a nasty divorce and he kind of just latched on to her. She was disappointed that they'd never had any children but as he had she gathered that the problem must be her and had never sought any medical advice and she thought they were both too old now.

She only looked about 10 years older than I, so I was a bit surprised by her response.

Just continue to get out and meet people, don't just wait for it to happen was her advice and as she was starting to look restless I gathered my 10 minutes was up so off I went.

I did go out and buy some clothes but somehow my heart wasn't really in it but I did it anyway . I wasn't too happy with what I got but at least I had some extras for a bit of variety.

Then kitty and I had a late tea and she lay sleeping hers off very nicely, while I planned my itinerary at the Gardens for today.

I left about 10 and had a good wander around. There was some guy there taking photos and I stood watching and in between his snaps he struck up a conversation. Well to cut a long story short his name was Jim and I'm meeting him after work next Friday in town and he said we could have a light meal and a bit of a chat. I'll pay he proferred so at least he wasn't mean or broke. And I accepted. A girl can't let the grass grow under her feet and I was already planning a trip to Manly for next Sunday.

My confidence was coming along in leaps and bounds but I just hoped I wasn't taking on more than I can handle.

We parted about 5 o'clock and kitty and I are having much the same night as we had last night.

When I'm feeling more in the mood I'll tell you about the current family joke about me, it gets dragged out quite regularly at family gatherings, everyone finding it quite hilarious, everyone except me that is.

Well today I don't feel love (except for Tinkerbelle) or hate or fear, quite a nice way to be really. I think my feet have come down to earth and are resting there a little more comfortably.
