How do you think people with a family juggle their lives best?

March 30th 2008 05:43
juggling

I've had a busy day, Andrew is up at the farm and I've been preparing for dinner to-night, he'll be here soon, but I'm just about ready. It's no good starting to cook until he arrives. I'm doing a nice stir fry, followed by chocolate meringue pie, which took me ages to do, but it's finished and we'll have it with ice cream, I also cooked a few meals to do me through the week but as I have said, on previous occasions, I really do not know how mothers with families cope if they have a full time job, but so many do.

It must be really exhausting to cope with the daily hassles of work, where one can't truly be yourself and then come home to a crying baby or hungry children or fractious teenagers.

I just could not imagine myself being able to cope with any of those situations at all and their weekends must be awful.

There's the cooking, the cleaning, the washing and ironing, the visiting of parents etc and children's activities and to leave a small baby for others to look after must be heartbreaking.

Of course, not being of a domestic nature, I think staying at home could be quite trying and very boring after a while, and there seems to be no escaping that awful fatigue that many mothers experience.

I just wonder what your circumstances are and if this is not a problem for you, is it for any other people that you know of.

And of course, many staying at home would find they do not have much money to finance interesting activities and no real communication often with the working world.

At this stage I can only speculate what it would be like for me, being short of money is NOT something I would ever expect to experience, in fact I think I would be quite comfortable.

But do let me know how you feel about these things and what parts of your life you've had to compromise with to satisfy another. I know many don't care any more whether they have children or not, but I think the majority of people want them.

After several nervous breakdowns and 20 years of therapy, I got through it; now it's the kids turn to go to therapy and complain about their sperm donor father. . .

We all muddle through it, some perhaps are better at it than others, but with humor and patience we can all survive the journey Krystal. But that chocolate pie with ice cream will help smooth out the rough spots, especially if in gratitude, other family members clean up the kitchen.

I am not really in a position to comment, but I helped a friend out last year while her husband was away, from what I could gather 3 kids is more than a full time job, the kids need a tonne of food just to go to day care, you have to get up like three hours early just to prepare the lunches, not to mention actually giving them breakfast....

I declared my friend a hero, id rather be at work anyday.

I am finding it hard juggling my parent's needs as well as everything else in my life, and I don't even have a proper family of my own yet!!

It was delicious, I'm really sorry but it's all gone.

I'd love to have you and your husband over to dinner one night,Tracy, I'm sure you'll be understanding if you find that I'm not very efficient in the home. Bring Fergal, we'll find somewhere to put him out of cat's harm.

I don't know about cleaning up the kitchen but Andrew certainly cleaned up his plate, as did I.

I think you must have been through a lot and now have ungrateful children if I can read between the lines, that's not uncommon now, I believe, but it is a worry. You sound like a tower of strength, that must be good for a wife, Raven.

Louie, I think you and I are on the same wave length there, which is a worry, as I'm intending to stay at home with the children when I have them.

Amy, parents? that may be another reason for starting a family when you're young. Life can be tough when we have choices. Not as tought as for those who have no choices though, perhaps.

Thank-you, Krystal. The three of us would be delighted to come over.
