What do you think is the most important thing for a successful marriage?

I'm feeling a little more relaxed about the future now, that is why I think it is perhaps better to marry young before too much awareness settles in. But, I suppose times do change and I need to accept that. No-one is free of problems and the future can only be dealt with as it occurs.
Fortunately I love and trust Andrew and we can talk things over so keeping those lines of communication open can be very important, in fact, I think it may well be the most important thing, provided of course that there is a union between decent, committed, thoughtful and responsible people.
So I am enjoying life more now and coming to realize that to share it with another person does involve some sacrifice and hopefully, some rewards as well.
I was beginning to think I should spend time with my parents when Andrew went off to the farm and then I began to realize that before Andrew came along I spent a lot of time on my own and really enjoyed it. I think I have been becoming a bit petulant, ridiculous really. Maybe, personally, I need to grow up.
This last weekend was great, Andrew booked us into a motel close by the farm, separate rooms of course, and I spent several hours out there with him while he extolled the virtues of his precious property, but the rest of the time I wandered around on my own, exploring the small town and discovered some very unusual little shops and noticed how happy the owners were to stop and chat to people, not like the City, where everything is so rushed.
I went to a local park and strolled along a nice little beach, I really liked discovering things for myself, even eating alone, when the only person I needed to please was myself.
I even found on my return to work that I was feeling better about that, too, and even 'faceache' could do nothing to annoy me, although he usually does.
I'm really quite excited about the thought of getting engaged now, but still old fashioned enough to wait for Andrew to do the asking, after all everytime previously when he has broached the subject I have told him I am not ready, so now the wait is becoming exciting, although I'm being careful not to get too excited.
Having some fresh produce from the farm is always a blessing as it is so much better than anything Woolworths has to offer.
So what do you think is the most important thing that you can do for a successful marriage, I'd love to have some responses, but I'm aware that posting as infrequently as I do, with so many posts going up, people do lose track, even supposing some of them just may like to respond.
It would be really great to be able to share with you some things that other people have to say, and we've really had some good input via comments, previously, it helps to take some of the guesswork out of things.
