Do you ever feel that time is passing you by?

Time passing by

The weeks seem to rush by just so quickly. I guess this is a short week because of the Australia Day weekend, which Jim and I enjoyed very much. We don't see each other much during the week as I have Ballet class two nights and Jim goes running and works out at the Gym.

I wonder how that will change as our relationship deepens. It seems nowadays that many people run their lives as singles rather than as a couple.

I know we do for at least 4 days out of 7.

The time passes so quickly I often wonder how people have the time to get married and how much their life changes after that.

I'm intending to give up my job when I start a family but until then I shall continue to work. I like my job and my role gives me quite a degree of autonomy. Jim seems to like his, well at least he never complains, I guess a lot of men just regard work as their function in life and would feel undervalued without it. That's how it strikes me anyway.

But I still have the sense that life moves forward very quickly now and I was wondering just how many others out there feel the same. I think those who work and have families to look after as well must find themselves particularly rushed. I heard one female describe it like being on automatic pilot.

But how many of you, like I do, feel sometimes that life is passing you by and that there is very little you can do about it. I guess that makes blogging a big waste of time.

What's your view?

Hi Krystal
Time has become my worst enemy since having a child. There is simply not enought of it! And the little bit that there is, goes FAR too quickly. I wish that I had the power to make time stand still, just now and then, just to relish the moment!

never enough hours in the day that is for sure....I always try to make sure I am doing something small everyday to get closer to my dreams, otherwise you wake up and its all passed you by in a blur of day after day monotony......the thought of that scares me

I'm hearing you - especially at the moment because I am working so much!

And it's not just having enough time in the day - there are so many things I want to do in life but I can't do them all at once, and don't know what I want to do first, or if I even CAN have it all...

Funny, I just had this feeling the other day that I must start doing a lot more than I am right now. I feel that being in a relationship now has limited my time of doing something else, say - go travelling because we always have to compromise on time and dates it just seems we'll never get anything done. If I wanted to go by myself he'll feel neglected and stuff....

I do feel time is passing us by. I still have so much to see and do and I just want to do it all at once just in case I wake up tomorrow and I am 70!

I recently split up with my (very long term) girlfriend, and I must say I was starting to feel the drag of being in a routine, nothing much ever happening / changing, though it was awful to lose her, I now feel far more alive. I'm actually flying to Vietnam tonight (I'm English and in oz at the moment) and it's something I never would have done a year ago. Not saying that you should dump your partner, but if you feel life is passing you by and it's basically a precession into middle-age - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Seriously, you have to live life for yourself at the end of the day, how would you feel if you compromised for years for your partner then you eventually split up anyway...?

Jo, I really understand what you are saying about having a child but I think you are so fortunate in staying home with him yourself you experience more of the rewards that way, it must be very difficult for those working to manage, especially if they work long hours, it is such a shame. I think the thing to do is to stop still at times and as you suggest “just relish the moment”. That’s worth thinking about.

Louie, I think you are just so right in keeping sight of your dreams and a little and often is the way to go, although you may speed up after a while, time does pass by so quickly as you say.

Michaelie, I’m afraid none of us can have it all although we may think we can, there’ll always be something in the way, you sound like such a bubbly gregarious person, so full of life, but it may just pay to stop and take stock and prioritize: that way you’re sure to get some of it.

Amy, one day hopefully, you’ll wake up and you’ll be seventy and still rarin’ to go. Being 1 of 2 rather than 1 of 1 does bring considerable change, just relish the years when you did do just what you wanted, and now relish the sharing and caring and future, I’m sure you’ll gain more than you lose.

Stephen, I sense a lot of hurt and pain there, but you’ve made a positive move and let’s hope your future is all the more rewarding from now on. It’s lovely when males get to comment.

Lovely to see you all, Crystal.
