What are your most common fears? Here's 9 just to get you started.
November 5th 2007 09:28
From Forbes.com comes this list of common fears.
1 creepy crawlies and snakes
2.heights
3.water
4.public transport
5.storms
6.closed spaces
7.tunnels bridges
8. crowds
9.speaking in public
Do any of these match yours, or do you have some special fears, I had always thought fear of public speaking was no. 1. but the list may not appear in any special order. That would not be my no.1. I have no fear of speaking in public.
One of my biggest is snakes and I don't think I like being out in an intense electrical storm.
But, as you know at present my fear is of not getting married and having children, but I am working on that but must wonder what the future brings. I'd like to hear about the fears men have, too.
So what are your fears?

It was moths (in terms of tangible things)

With crowds...it's not a fear but more like an intense uncomfortable feeling.
I like storms (when I'm indoors!), but not when there's too much lighting and thunder

getting old. Happening all the time, but don't want to be there.

Had to put on the brave dad face recently with the kids and 'stroke' a python and carpet snake at a reptile park as part of a demonstration - jeezzz!
No.1 daughter thinks nothing of them though and is quite happy to have these god-awful things around her shoulders. That said - she has panick attacks (serious panick attacks) around birds.
Interesting post.

I have a few of the ones listed up there, creepy crawlies, heights, deep water and I don’t like public speaking but I don’t think that’s quite a phobia although I do avoid it if I can.
I realised a few years ago that I had to do something about my insect phobia as it was getting ridiculous. I saw a cockroach in our loo (crawling through the toilet paper tube!!!) and I was hysterical. I think I got rid of it (I must’ve, otherwise I would’ve left the flat and probably the suburb) but I felt so unsafe inside my home that I sat on the sofa without moving for the next 3 hrs waiting for my husband to come home. I moved the sofa into the middle of the room so that I had a moat of safety around me. If it anything were to attack,I could see it coming, plus I was armed, I had Baygon.
The next day I decided to get help, I started acupuncture. It took a few sessions, but it helped. Now I no longer risk having heart failure if I see a creepy-crawly. I still get scared but it’s more bearable....

I don't share many of the ones above, although dark water at night would be one, for sure.
The other is finding myself alone and stranded in the forest on a no moon night, and to overcome it, I am going to book a vision quest soon and see if I can 'make it through..'
*cringe* *wince* *sneaking off to the street lit area* where I can see what's crawling around...

hhhmmm heights are not one of my most favourite things but I can pretty much cope with a lot... once I have burst into tears and got the fear out of my system.
One thing I am scared of and no amount of tears will fix is spiders. It really isn`t necessary for a creature to have so many legs - that`s just being greedy!

i would have thought "Death" would have been in there.
Anyway right now, because I'm living it I am fearful and anxious about "Moving House", so maybe that should go on there.

I have a pathological loathing of cockroaches, mosquitos and flies.
Not a fear, but a pathological loathing.

feelings
It will take me a while to recover from shock, what I need is a nice strong man to look after me, I can't wait. And I noticed that at least for one fear was closely allied with hate, very interesting, but you all had feelings that is certain.
Love you all

It wasn't a huge step like standing in front of a million people but it was in front of twelve people and I think that's a good start.
I know what you mean, Michaelie, I often feel like I'm going to pass out before the event, but I didn't. I often get that jittery voice that I hate, but I decided to push through.
I know what you mean, Ash. I've done that before, stood there and nothing came out. I'm doing an evening course of freelance writing. It's excellent, I love it and learn so much every week.

PS By the way, the tutor/teacher says that blogging can be a good way of honing writing skills as well as discovering what you are passionate about. I was happy about that opinion
PPS Hello Crystal, great post...
